Incorrigo Syx | General Commands
[ starting off ] [ contact your service users ] [ /commands ] [ account & services ] [ security groups ] [ vHost ]
everyone who is connected to any server on the network [even us] is put into a number of security groups
normal users can not see these groups, even for themselves, as they are more for our benefit than yours
many security groups are for functional purposes and make management of the network more straightforward and robust
however, for the benefit of channel owners [mostly via extended bans] we have decided to share a few of them harmlessly with the public
you can refer to a security group in an extended ban by using ~G ... as you know a channel has 3 lists [bans, exceptions, invitations]
it is not possible to view which security groups someone is in, and this can change during a session
i.e. by identifying for your nickname with nickserv &c.
you are able to test whether the criteria works by connecting to the network and mimic details like not being logged into an account &c. yourself
publically shared security groups
you can find out how you can use security groups by going to your server messages ["Incorrigo Syx" tab in browser] and typing the command: /helpop extbans for a complete run-down on how it all works
security group name | example channel usage | brief description |
---|---|---|
spam-fool | /mode #channelname +bz ~G:spam-fool [this command will ban everyone from that group into your channmel. if you use mode [z] with it then only TLS (securely connected) clients may join |
this is a special group that defines someone as a spammer and they usually because it deals with poorly configured python scripts / compromised machines, you would know if you were in this group |
plaintext | /mode #channelname +b ~quiet:~G:plaintext [this ban will still allow someone into the channel but silence them so they need voice or higher to speak] |
users in this group are not connected securely and any incoming or outgoing is not hidden from people on the same local area network / intermediary node that the connection will pass through |
unregistered | /mode #channelname ~forward:#idiots:~G:unregistered [forwards any unregistered users to a channel called #idiots] |
unregistered users are people who have not registered an account / not logged into or identified for one |
registered | /mode #channelname +e ~G:registered [this command will except all registered users from any channel bans that may be set] |
registered users have undergone a certain verification and have associated themselves with an account. you don't need to be an elite member of a private gentleman's club in order to see, that it's pretty obvious being in this group will open a few doors |
tls-users [this is built into the server] |
/mode #channelname +z /mode #channelname +I ~G:tls-users [setting channel mode +z will only allow TLS users into the channel anyway, so here's an example of allowing them access to a invite-only channel instead] [when a channel is completely secure users only, the server will flag this by setting mode +Z [remember mode letters are case sensitive !]] |
tls-users is the opposite of plaintext. this kind of connection goes without saying, in exactly the same way as any website would use https - it's essentially the same thing not being in this group is just a stubborn way of making life more difficult for yourself |
webirc-users | /mode #channelname +e ~msgbypass:color:~G:webirc-users [this will allow users connected using their web browser to put "ctrl+k" colour codes in their channel messages] |
at the moment this means all users connected using their web broweer - currently only possible via our secure gateway. things look different through the kiwi client / the impact it has on users is different. this security group is another built-in, but can make some things more simple when it is creatively used all connections through our kiwi irc web based client are TLS secure |
this is not an exhaustive list of all the security groups we have set up for various reasons. but these ones here should be enough to empower the channel owner, so we don't have to
~~~ we will not get involved in channel matters ~~~
